Cognitive & Educational Assessments

Supporting Children and Adolescents (Ages 6–16)

Insightful Minds Psychology provides comprehensive Cognitive and Educational (Learning) Assessments to help families understand a child’s thinking skills, learning style, and academic needs. These assessments offer clear, practical guidance to support learning at school, at home, and in future educational settings.

Our assessments are conducted by experienced psychologists using gold-standard, evidence-based tools including the WISC-V (cognitive/IQ) and WIAT-III (academic achievement).

What Are Cognitive & Educational Assessments?

These assessments evaluate how a child thinks, learns, processes information, and solves problems. They can help identify learning strengths, cognitive differences, giftedness, and potential learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia.

Areas assessed may include:

  • General intellectual ability (IQ)

  • Verbal and non-verbal reasoning

  • Attention, concentration, and working memory

  • Processing speed

  • Problem-solving

  • Academic skills (reading, writing, spelling, mathematics)

  • Learning style and areas of strength

Suitable for children and adolescents aged 6–16 years.

When Might an Assessment Be Helpful?

An assessment may be recommended when a child:

  • Struggles with reading, writing, spelling, or maths despite support

  • Shows inconsistent or unexpected academic performance

  • Has difficulty following instructions, staying organised, or sustaining attention

  • Becomes frustrated, anxious, or disengaged with learning

  • Is suspected of having a learning difficulty (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia)

  • Appears gifted or has advanced learning abilities

  • Requires documentation for school support plans or exam accommodations

  • Needs cognitive data for an ADHD or Autism assessment (within our practice or for your paediatrician)

Identifying learning strengths and challenges early helps guide effective interventions and support emotional wellbeing.

“We feel truly honoured to support individuals and families on their neuroaffirming journey. It’s a privilege to walk alongside people as they come to better understand themselves, embrace their strengths, and advocate for the support they deserve. Every assessment, conversation, and moment of insight is a reminder of the resilience and uniqueness of each person we work with. We are deeply grateful to play a part in creating a more inclusive and understanding world, where neurodiversity is not only recognised but genuinely valued.”
